Why render your house?
Render covers tired brick, patchy repairs and old pebbledash with one clean finish. It helps keep rain and damp out of the walls. And it can change the look of a house more than almost anything else you can do to the outside.
We render whole houses, extensions that need to match the main house, and houses where the old render has failed and needs taking back to the brick. We also take on commercial and new build work.
How well a render lasts comes down to the system and the preparation. Loose render and pebbledash need to come off or be made sound. Cracks need dealing with rather than covering over. Then a base coat with reinforcing mesh goes on before the finish coat, so the render has a strong, even surface to sit on. Skipped steps are a common reason new render fails.
Types of render we fit
There’s no single best render. Each one suits different walls, looks and budgets. We’ve worked with systems from Fassa Bortolo, K Rend, Weber, Parex, Wetherby and Alsecco, so we can recommend the one that fits your house.
Which render is right for your house?
It depends on the walls, the look you want and how much upkeep you’re happy with. Here’s a rough guide. We’ll give you a straight recommendation on the survey.
| Render | Colour | Needs painting? | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silicone | All the way through | No | A smooth modern finish. Over insulation |
| Monocouche | All the way through | No | Straight onto block or brick in one thick coat |
| Sand and cement | Grey until painted | Yes | Traditional homes and patch repairs |
If you’re adding external wall insulation, a thin coat silicone finish is the usual choice over the insulation boards. If you want a brick look, brick slips can go on instead. And if you’re matching render that’s already on the house, the existing finish often decides it.
Re-rendering and other work
A lot of houses already have render or pebbledash that’s past its best. Sometimes it can be repaired. Sometimes it’s sound enough to render over. And sometimes it needs to come off completely. We’ll tell you which on the survey.

These include five houses on one street in Leamington Spa, where we replaced old mock Tudor panels with a Fassa render system, and a render only Fassa Bortolo system near Redditch.
House rendering questions
How much does it cost to render a house?
It depends on the size of the house, the render you choose, the state of the walls and scaffolding. We price every job after a free survey.
Can you render over brick?
Yes. Brick is one of the most common surfaces we render. The walls are cleaned and prepared first so the render bonds properly.
Can you render in winter?
Yes, but only when temperatures are consistently around 5°C or above and rising. That lets the render cure properly and bond to the wall. It can’t go on in frost or heavy rain, so dates can move with the weather.
